THEATRE | Hard and Able
Cabaret and burlesque shows have certainly made a huge comeback in Toronto in recent years. The one-night only performance of Hard and Able continues that trend, but with a twist: all the artists performing tonight identify as both queer and disabled. Organizers are hoping to draw attention to the fact that artists who are queer and have disabilities are not only present in our community, but deserve more opportunities to showcase their unique art.
Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, 12 Alexander St., $5, 8pm

FILM | Fierce Light DVD Launch Event
Perhaps if his name didn't remind you of the sneakers you used to wear before you could tie shoelaces, Canadian documentarian Velcrow Ripper's moniker might be synonymous with the unique films he makes. An activist as well as film maker, Ripper has journeyed to some of the world's hottest conflict zones to uncover hope and spirituality amidst the chaos. Fierce Light documents his brand of activism which is insipired by Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr. and draws on spirituality to produce social change. Ticket price includes a screening of the film and a copy of the DVD.
Royal Theatre, 608 College St., $25, 7pm

MUSIC | The Wooden Sky Live at Sonic Boom
Local band The Wooden Sky plays a free set at Sonic Boom to launch their new record.
Sonic Boom, 512 Bloor St. West. FREE 7pm

MUSIC | Elvis Monday: Hellaluya's one and only show
Billing themselves as "Toronto's most unstable band", Hellaluya includes drummer Daniel Woodhead of Spiral Beach and claims to make music that sounds like "a steamroller crushing a broken computer monitor filled with baby mice." The trio is so unstable in fact that they are forming and breaking up in the same night, performing a single show at the Drake Underground's Elvis Monday showcase. Also on the bill are more durable acts Whale Tooth, Sweethearts of the Radio, and In Plain View.
Drake Underground, 1150 Queen St. W., Free, 10 pm

FUNDRAISER | Under ONE Umbrella - Schmingling for WarChild.ca
Lou Dawg's is new to King West, and thanks to its authentic smoked meat it's already had some declaring that the entertainment district has a new sandwich king. The delicious food is just one reason to spend Monday evening at the smoke house, the others being that the cover charge goes to help WarChild.ca and you'll have a chance to bid on a silent auction. Prizes include a trip for four around the Toronto islands on a private sailboat.
Lou Dawg's Southern Sandwiches, 589 King St. W., $10, 6 pm

PARTIES | Refresh Summer Social '09
Toronto social media organization Refresh Events throws its one year anniversary bash at the London Tap Room tonight. This is a chance for designers, developers, entrepreneurs and anyone else in the interactive advertising industry to tear themselves away from their Twitter pages and actually meet face to face. Proceeds go to War Child, which is getting a boost from several sources tonight. Follow the links on the event's blogTO page for free tickets.
London Tap Room, 250 Adelaide St. W., Free, 7 pm
