MUSIC | Cuff the Duke In-store at Criminal Records
Oshawa foursome Cuff the Duke are on their fourth record, and look no further than their producer for proof that they've firmly established themselves as mainstays of the Canadian music scene. Blue Rodeo legend Greg Keelor invited the band to his cabin this past winter to make the album, and tonight C the D play an in-store show to mark the release before heading on a tour that will take them to Victoria to Halifax and back again.
Criminal Records, 493 Queen St. W., Free, 7 pm

BOOKS AND LIT | How It All Vegan 10th Anniversary Party
Ten years ago, Sarah Kramer and Tanya Barnard wrote a cookbook filled with vegan recipes. Framing veganism as a lifestyle choice, the women's fashion, style, and sass propelled the book to fame, and for legions of fans it has become known as the vegan's bible. Kramer's throwing a party tonight celebrate the 10th anniversary edition of the book and launch her new GoVegan calendar. Proceeds go to Ark II, a Toronto-based animal advocacy organization.
Panacea, 588 Bloor St. W., $20, 7 pm

THEATRE| Theatrefront 2009/2010 Launch
Theatrefront is an experimental theatre group that has made a name for itself by staging forward-thinking productions of new Canadian works, and winning acclaim and awards in the process. Tonight's party to launch 2009/2010 season features a preview of the Mill, Theatrefront's most ambitious project. A series of four plays written by four different Canadian playwrights but acted by the same ensemble cast, the Mill tells the story of a pioneer town and the dark secrets of its inhabitants.
Steam Whistle Roundhouse, 255 Bremner Blvd., $100, 7 pm

MUSIC| Guttermouth at Lee's Palace
Veteran California punk band Guttermouth don't have a great track record in Canada. They were reportedly kicked off the Vans Warped Tour in 2004 for making insulting remarks about the other bands while on stage (Yellowcard and My Chemical Romance just made too easy targets). The band's been through many personnel changes over the years and their latest album Shave the Planet was not well received, but there should still be a loyal group of fans looking to get rowdy at Lee's tonight.
Lee's Palace, 529 Bloor St. W., $14.50, 8 pm

FILM| Climate Change Film Festival
There's an important film festival coming to Toronto this week. No not that one. The Climate Change is Coming to Town Film Festival is screening five films to bring attention to the possible consequences of global warming. The festival starts tonight with a workshop focusing on Tuvalu, one of many small island nations that may well be obliterated by rising oceans, and includes the Venus Theory, a film that postulates Earth could be rendered as unlivable as Venus if we continue on our current path. Runs until Sunday.
Workshop: Bahen Centre, 40 St. George St. Rm B1170, Free, 7 pm
Films: Bloor Cinema, 506 Bloor St. W., $5 per film, Various times

BOOKS AND LIT | Momentum Magazine Toronto Launch
The next few years are going to be interesting for Toronto's blossoming bike culture. With biker-driver relations in the city making national headlines, cyclists have an opportunity to win themselves space on our streets, but also grab some cultural space as well. Vancouver-based Momentum Magazine has made its mark with distribution across North America, and the magazine for self-propelled people launches its Toronto edition tonight with a party featuring local bike art.
Toronto Free Gallery, 1277 Bloor St. W., Free, 7 pm
