MUSIC | Corb Lund at the Horseshoe
Corb Lund's so Albertan he deserves a starring role on Wild Roses. The dude was born to four generations of ranchers and rodeo clowns and has entrenched that heritage in his music, singing songs about horseback riding and the importance of carrying a sharpened knife. If that's not enough to earn him a membership card in the official cowpoke club, he's also recorded with Ian Tyson. He plays the second night of a two-night stand at the Horseshoe tonight.

FILM | Bill Withers in Still Bill
Despite writing two of the 20th century's all-time classic songs in "Lean on Me" and "Ain't No Sunshine", Bill Withers is notoriously reclusive, shunning fame over his over 40-year career and rarely interacting with the media. Damani Baker's documentary Still Bill finally gives an intimate glimpse inside the singer's life, visiting his hometown West Virginia community that inspired "Lean on Me" and unearthing seldom-seen concert footage. Baker will be at the Toronto premiere of the film tonight for a Q&A.

FILM FESTIVAL | Get Animated!
Anyone who remembers The Log Driver's Waltz or The Cat Came Back can attest to the fact that this country has a rich history in animation. The National Film Board celebrates World Animation Day with three days of animated programming including official selections for the Toronto International Film Festival. There will also be a showcase of the best animated films from around the world, and the festival kicks off today with a screening of shorts created by graduates from Sheridan College, which has been turning out great animation for 30 years.

EXHIBITION | National Women's Show
Ladies, start your engines. The National Women's show hits town this weekend, featuring all kinds of stereotypical (and hopefully some not-so-stereotypical) girlie things like beauty and fashion samples, jewelery showcases, cooking demonstrations and tips on how to advance your career. And makeovers. Don't forget makeovers. Grab some girlfriends, come on down, and smash that glass ceiling. Runs til Sunday.

BENEFIT CONCERT | Pinktober w/ Holly McNarland and Magneta Lane
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness and funds to fight a disease which will likely affect each and everyone of us at some point in our lives. The folks at UR Artist Network are doing their part by throwing a benefit concert featuring an all female line-up of Holly McNarland, Magneta Lane, and the Barettas. Funds will be raised through a silent auction featuring items from the Toronto Maple Leafs (boo...), Steam Whistle Brewing, and Warner Music.

PARTY | Unleashed in the East at Rasputin Vodka Bar
Metal heads and hair band fans should be crossing Yonge St. like Germans over the Berlin Wall for this hard rock party on Queen East. Expect KISS, AC/DC, Van Halen, and a whole lot of G 'n F'n R. I've never been to the Rasputin Vodka Bar, but it looks very Russian and has a great intro on its website. Please note, despite the club's name, under no condition will you hear ABBA's classic "Ra Ra Rasputin."

MUSIC | Everything All the Time CD Release
Toronto six-piece Everything All the Time is known for creating danceable rock tunes held together by the very strong voice of singer Alanna Stuart. The band's already had an EP release party earlier this summer, but they're at it again with a show at the Drake celebrating their self-titled record. EATT brand of sophisticated analog pop is made using horns, intricate vocals, and seven keyboards, so it's kind of a wonder that Everything All the Time can fit everything on stage at the same time (ha!).

ART FAIR | Art Toronto 2009
After the expensive opening night at the AGO, Art Toronto gets fully underway today. Showcasing modern and contemporary art, the fair gives collectors and appreciators the chance to view and buy original work from over 100 international exhibiting galleries.
