MUSIC | Built to Spill at Lee's Palace
Legendary Idaho indie band Built to Spill have such wide-ranging musical ability that they've united fans of Neil Young, Dinosaur Jr., and the 90's Seattle grunge scene. Frontman Doug Martsch revived the idea of the indie guitar hero in the 1990s, and the band has built a solid career spanning nearly two decades (although they've never kept a solid line up). They play two the first of two consecutive nights at Lee's Palace tonight. Disco Doom opens.

CABARET | The Circus Cabaret Roadshow
The Laurentian Room of the Winchester Hotel on Toronto's east side has stood vacant for nearly thirty years, but the old vaudevillian venue has been completely restored to its old art deco glory and renamed the Samovar Room. The Circus Cabaret Roadshow looks to reignite the venue's cabaret heritage with a sort of American Idol: Cabaret Edition kind of competition which will showcase both new and upcoming talent as well as Circus Entertainment's impressive roster of performance artists. They'll be a dj playing tunes from as far back as the 1940s and the winner gets cash! Just the chance to see this gorgeous room is probably worth the trip.

THEATRE | The Walworth Farce
Acclaimed Irish playwright Edna Walsh penned this work, which depicts two hours in the life of a London father and his two sons. As the three follow their daily routine of downing pints of beer and nibbling crackers topped with spreadable cheese, the stories they tell themselves and each other unravel and reveal shocking family secrets. Told at turns with stunning realism and farcical humour, the play makes its Canadian debut at the Fleck Dance theatre tonight. The opening reception is at the Watermark Irish Pub, fittingly.

MUSIC | Danny Michel Rivoli Residency
Anyone who's seen a Danny Michel live show knows that this boy has got charm and talent coming out of his ass. His onstage banter is just about as entertaining as his songs, and the Waterloo native blends sincerity and humour to create an engaging experience for his audience. The Juno Award winner begins a four-night residency at the Rivoli tonight in which he'll play twice solo and twice with his band, the whimsically-named Camptown Racers. Runs til Saturday.

SPORTS | Cheerio's Cheers for Canadian Athletes
With the first Olympics to be held in Canada in 22 years only a few short months away, this winter is going to be a slow nationalistic crescendo that will hopefully culminate in gold medal glory in February. Some of the country's Olympic hopefuls will be at Yonge-Dundas Square today for a Cheerios-themed pep rally, including women's hockey gold medalists Cheryl Pounder and Vicki Sunohara. Stop by and sign a postcard to encourage Canada's amateur athletes.
