MUSIC | The Wooden Sky at Lee's Palace w/ Hooded Fang and Brian Borcherdt
The Wooden Sky are probably the best young alt-country band in this city. They've got incredible voices, heaps of talent, and great songs. Their sophomore album If I Don't Come Home You'll Know I'm Gonehas just been released and from the looks of it these guys are finally going to get the wide audience they deserve. They hit up Lee's Palace tonight with endearingly twee indie collective the Hooded Fang and Holy Fuck's Brian Borcherdt.

FILM | Naked Frames
The Revue Cinema hosts this unique event that combines live music, animation and music videos. The goal is to bring together independent artists from across disciplines to provide venues for low- or no-budget projects and opportunities for collaboration. Discordan Euphony and China Woman will be playing live and new music videos by Ohbijou and the Mecurymen will be screened. Some great independent animators have also contributed including Neil Burns, Malcolm Sutherland, Steve Hill, and Charuvi Agrawal.

BOOKS AND LIT | Reading with David Meltzer, Michael Rothenberg, and Terri Carrion
Daivd Meltzer is a real live Beat poet from 1950's San Francisco. Not a lot of these guys made it into the 21st century (see Kerouac, Burroughs, and Ginsburgh) so beatniks like these are our only living links to an artistic movement that spawned the hippy generation and practically invented what we think of as counter-culture. Meltzer will be joined by Venezuelan poet Terri Carrion and Michael Rothenberg, editor of San Francisco-based literary webzine Big Bridge.

MUSIC | Young Galaxy at the Horseshoe
After their debut album garnered them nationwide success, Montreal's Young Galaxy left their cozy spot on Canada's hippest label Arts & Crafts and struck out on their own. Their self-funded second album Invisible Republic dropped earlier this year and already it looks like they're no worse off fending for themselves. The band wraps up a Canada-wide tour tonight with a show at the 'Shoe and will be joined by openers The Junction and Paper Lions.

COMEDY FEST | Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival
The Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival continues tonight with six triple bills featuring troupes from Canada and the US. Highlights include New York's Kannelis and Armstrong joining forces with U of T's Skule night at the Theatre Passe Muraille while Approximately 3 Peters and She Said What hit up the Comedy Bar. The Comedy Bar will also be holding Some Conditions Apply, a commercial parody night that will see 8 sketch groups making fun of the Shamwow guy (among others), and Second City plays its 64th revue "Shut Up and Show Us Your Tweets."

MUSIC | NuJazz Festival: Elizabeth Shepherd, Katie DuTemple, and Jessica Stuart
The NuJazz festival celebrates "the Women of NuJazz" tonight with an evening of some of Canada's finest female vocalists. Elizabeth Shepherd is a two-time Juno nominee who's fresh off playing the Hollywood Bowl with the Count Basie Orchestra, while Katie DuTemple has spent the past few years on a mission to infuse Toronto's jazz scene with electronica. The Jessica Stuart Few and British import Iniffa round out the evening.
