EXHIBITION | King Tut: The Golden King and the Great Pharaohs
The 1979 King Tutankhamun exhibit at the AGO is still the single biggest exhibition in Canadian history and had patrons lining up around the block catch a glimpse of the remains of the boy king. The 2009 King Tut exhibit opens today, but this time the pharaoh's body is staying safely at home (word is his mummy doesn't let him out anymore!). Instead the recently revamped gallery will be showcasing some of the fantastic artifacts unearthed at King Tut's tomb in the Valley of the Kings in 1922 - including a miniature replica of his iconic blue and gold sarcophagus - as well as stunning pieces pertaining to other notable Egyptian royalty. Runs til April 18.
Art Gallery of Ontario, 317 Dundas St. W., $16.50-$32.50

MUSIC | Devo at the Phoenix
Legendary nerd rock band Devo play their second show of a two night stand at the Phoenix tonight. These two shows are their first in Toronto in a quarter century and they've only performed in handful of cities all this year. Reviews from those shows indicate the arty provocateurs haven't missed an electronic beat since their heyday in the 1970s, and tonight they will be playing their 1980 album Freedom of Choice in its entirety. Don't risk waiting another 25 years and see if you can scrounge up a ticket tonight.
Phoenix Concert Theatre, 410 Sherbourne St., $48.25-$99.75, 8 pm

PANEL DISCUSSION | Bent Relationships
If you believe the advice columns in the back pages of this city's weeklies, you and your boyfriend are about the only people in Toronto who are actually monogamous. Everyone else is in some kind of enlightened polyamorous arrangement involving amyl nitrate, rubber cat suits and frequently, an open-minded college field hockey team. A panel of sexperts convenes at the Gladstone tonight for an interactive discussion on what it means to be in a 21st century relationship, touching on topics including threesomes, moresomes, S&M, kink, fetish, nontraditional families and common law marriage. Good to know what your options are.
Gladstone Hotel, 1214 Queen St. W., Free, 7 pm

CYCLING COMMUNITY | Pedal Power: Biking For a Better Toronto
Toronto's cycling community continues its tradition of strong organization with an evening of film screenings and interactive discussions. The Pedal Power group seeks to answer the question what does biking mean for the city Toronto in 2009 and how far are we to becoming a sustainable and bike-friendly city. The evening's double-bill includes Pedal Power, a doc about Toronto's cycling revolution, and The Bicycle: Fighting AIDS with Community Medicine, which chronicles how the two-wheeled conveyance is helping health workers reach HIV-afflicted populations in rural Malawi. Films will be followed by a community-building discussion.
Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, 252 Bloor St. W., PWYC, 8:30 pm

FILM | Canadian Cinema in Revue: Owning Mahowny
Blogger and critic Alan Bacchus curates the Canadian Cinema in Revue film series, which is dedicated to bringing innovative Canadian films to a larger audiences. Tonight's installment is the filmed-on-location 2003 Toronto drama Owning Mahowny, which stars Philip Seymour-Hoffman in the true story of a Hogtown bank manager who embezzled millions of dollars to feed his gambling addiction in the 1980s. The screening will be followed by a live via-Skype conversation with the film's British director Richard Kwietniowski, who has kindly promised to brave the time difference and stay up to participate in the event.
Revue Cinema, 400 Roncesvalles Ave., $8-$10, 7 pm

MUSIC | Soundstreams Presents Berliner Konzert
The W端rttemberg Chamber Orchestra was founded in the city of Heilbronn in 1960 at a time when Germany was still rebuilding from the Second World War. The WCO was the first orchestra to play in the city since the end of the conflict, and over the past 40 years they have traveled the world playing with some of the era's premiere musicians. They come to town tonight to play a concert marking the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall with the fantastic Toronto-based Gryphon Trio.
Jane Mallett Theatre, 27 Front St. E., $15-$40, 8 pm
