Events on Toronto's Radar for WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 25, 2009... lovingly handpicked from blogTO's events calendar.

MUSIC | Malajube live at Sonic Boom
Polaris Prize finalists Malajube come to Toronto's biggest independent record store for an up-close-and-personal performance tonight. The Montreal francophone foursome launched their third record Labyrinthes earlier this year, adding another fine notch to their belts. Tonight's free in-store is a lead up to their show Thursday at the Horseshoe, and is the prog-pop band's last Ontario date before they embark on a tour of Quebec.
Sonic Boom, 512 Bloor St. W., Free, 7 pm

FESTIVAL | Ladyfest
Now in it's ninth year, Ladyfest is an interdisciplinary festival that merges feminist politics with art. For the next five days, an open collective of artists and activists will put on concerts, parties, exhibitions and workshops all celebrating the achievement of Toronto feminists and providing opportunities to shape our society into a more equitable way. The fest kicks off tonight with a party at the Gladstone hosted by Elisha Lim and Loree Erickson and featuring a Bollywood Burlesque performance and music by Nolan Natasha and Airheart. Festival runs until Sunday. See the festival's website for complete program
Gladstone Hotel, 1214 Queen St. W., Free, 7 pm

BOOKS AND LIT | Jonathan Lethem's Chronic City at the Harbourfront
One of America's most acclaimed young novelists Jonathan Lethem comes to town tonight to read from Chronic City, his vision of an alternate reality Manhattan. The new novel follows a revolving cast of New Yorkers through a familiar yet fantastic version of the metropolis in which the World Trade Centre is still standing and the entire island is wrapped in a smell of chocolate. It's long and strange, and hopefully Lethem will shed some light on it tonight when he's interviewed by Walrus editor Jared Bland.
Harbourfront Centre, 235 Queen's Quay West, $8, 7:30 pm

MOVIE KARAOKE | Movie-Oke
Stuck working as a stock boy at American Apparel while you wait for your acting career to take off? That's no reason to let your talent go to waste. Movie-oke (the movie version of karaoke) gives you a chance to act alongside the greats. Recreate your favourite movie scenes with live musical accompaniment. Hosted by the Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto, the event also includes a silent auction to benefit Toronto's indie filmsters.
Gladstone Hotel Ballroom, 1214 Queen St. W., $10, $8 for students, 7pm-11pm

MUSIC | Maylee Todd's Souljams
The always-energetic Maylee Todd has been a fixture of the Toronto indie scene since the mid-decade heyday of the Embassy, when as a member of Henri Faberge and the Adorables she would regularly tear the roof off the Kensington institution. Her new group Pegwee Power is a fusion of funk, jazz and pop and is inspired by an imaginary creature that lives on her shoulder. Maylee and some of her musician friends are unleashing soul tunes tonight at the Red Light and while it's unclear from the event info if it's a concert or a party or what, whenever Maylee's involved it's bound to be sexy, drunk, and full of partiers.
The Red Light, 1185 Dundas St. W., 11 pm

BOOKS AND LIT | Nathaniel G. Moore's Wrong Bar at Wrong Bar
The city that Nathaniel G. Moore presents in his new book Wrong Bar is populated by sarcastic murderous hipsters to whom nothing beyond their own avatar is sacred. Sound familiar? The title of the book is no coincidence; bad boy of Canadian literature says it was inspired by the culture of Toronto and is a refutation of the currently popular idea that we should all celebrate our inner wild child. Instead Moore wishes to examines the consequences of a world where our online creations interact more with each other than our physical selves. Moore reads from the book at the titular bar tonight.
Wrong Bar, 1279 Queen St. W., 8 pm
