Radar: Sketch Wars, Tweetup, Apocolyptica, CV2 Coast-to-Coast, Woody Allen Double Feature

COMEDY | Sketch Wars
Get ready to see comedy get competitive as four sketch troupes battle it out with brand new material. These sketch troupes have had one week to write new sketches based on topics sent to them by creator Craig Brown. Then it's up to judges Nug Nahrgang (Dark Rising 2) and Vivieno Caldinelli (Hotbox) to decide who's the best and who's the worst. Troupes include Forever Plaid, Over Served, A Classy Affair, and Man, Guy, Baby.
Comedy Bar, 945 Bloor St W, $5, 8pm

FUNDRAISER | Tweetup V1.2
For those who aren't on Twitter yet, a Tweetup is when people who all use Twitter come together and meet in real life. Don't worry, it's nothing like meeting someone from Craigslist, which is way creepier. This month's Tweetup at The Gladstone is a fundraiser for Public Displays of Affection -- no, not tounging in public, the group of designers who use their skills as a tool to improve society. So yeah, don't take that name to assume you can just start making out all over the place... that's still gross.
The Gladstone Hotel, 1214 Queen St W, PWYC, 7pm

MUSIC | Apocolyptica at Sound Academy
Apocalyptica is a Finnish cello metal band, no, hold on, let me FINNISH! But seriously, I'll explain more. They mix trash metal with classical music for something a lot different than your traditional metal and their bringing their live show all the way to Canada tonight when they play at Sound Academy. They've been around since 1993 so they must be good otherwise by now they'd be FINNISH-ed! (Okay, that was the last one). Dir En Grey open, and I've got no puns for them.
Sound Academy, 11 Polson St, $31, 7pm

READING | CV2 Coast-to-Coast
CV2 (or Contemporary Verse) is Canada's largest poetry and critical writing journal and they are now celebrating 35 years with a cross Canada tour. The CV2 Coast-to-Coast Reading Tour makes their Toronto stop tonight at Clinton's tonight with poetry by Jim Nason, Kate Cayley, Maureen Hynes and Steve McOrmond
Clintons, 693 Bloor St W, 8pm

FILM | Woody Allen Double Feature
I know it's hard to get over the heaps of crap he made in the 90s, but Woody Allen is still one of the best filmmakers of his time. He's even been making a comeback recently with Match Point and Vicky Christina Barcelona. Well the Bloor Cinema is doing a Woody Allen double feature, showing arguably two of his best films: Annie Hall and Manhattan. If you aren't familiar with them, both films came out in the late 70s and were kind of the first of their kind - a romantic comedy that's actually funny.
Bloor Cinema, 506 Bloor St W, $10 each, 7pm
