Toronto Laundry

Radar: Tweetgasm, The Film Buffet, Elvis Mondays, David Miller, Aloe Blacc

LITERATURE | David Miller: Witness To A City
Tonight's event at Fort York celebrates the release of David Miller's book, Witness To A City, which chronicles his own story, and that of 18 'amazing' Torontonians he met during his 19-year tenure as councillor and mayor. Several of these 'real people' will be present this evening for a Q & A panel, as well. Fort York (100 Garrison Rd) 7:30PM $10

FILM | Toronto Film Society: The Film Buffet
An awesome double-bill kicks off the Toronto film Society's Fall Screening season. Tonight it's Thieves' Highway, a dark tale of revenge starring Richard Conte and Valentina Cortese, paired with Edge of The City, a classic drama centered around an interracial friendship (which was a big deal on screen in 1957) and the corrupt world of the Manhattan waterfront, starring Sidney Poitier, and John Cassavetes. Innis Town Hall (2 Sussex Ave) 7:30PM $15

MUSIC | Elvis Mondays at The Drake Hotel
William New's long-running indie rock showcase continues at the Drake Hotel. Famous for featuring early or debut performances of such established indie heroes as By Divine Right, Peaches, and Billy Talent - to name just a few, this weekly showcase rocks on tonight with New/France, Lovely Killbots, Dick Sanchez, Bubble and Squeak, and People of Canada. The Drake Hotel (1150 Queen St. W) 9PM FREE

CULTURE | Tweetgasm V1.5 - Movember Edition
By now everyone has been made aware of the Movember movement, or charity event that couldn't be more interactive: men growing a moustache to raise awareness and money for men's health - specifically the issue of prostate cancer. Tonight's benefit for MovemberTO at The Gladstone Hotel brings social media into the picture with a Twitter Wall, and all hosts referred to by their @Twitter 'handles'. There will also be a DJ set, and "MoCupCakes" - what are the chances they'll be sporting icing 'staches? Better pop by to find out! The Gladstone Hotel - Melody Bar (1214 Queen St. W) 7PM PWYC

MUSIC | Aloe Blacc @ Wrongbar - November 15
There's something old-school about Aloe Blacc's assertion that his music is meant as an instrument of "social change", without the music necessarily referring to said "change" directly. Blacc is currently touring in support of his new album, Good Things, which has already made a splash by having its first single, "I Need A dollar" licensed by HBO as the theme for the series How To Make It In America. Tonight's show will also feature sets by Maylee Todd and Maya Jupiter. Wrongbar (1279 Queen St. W.) 9PM $15.00
