Family Day events in Toronto 2012

OUTDOORS | Free Ice Skating During Family Day on Toronto's Waterfront!
It's Family Day! There's no better way to bond as a unit - regardless of what type of family we're talking about here, be it your typical 'nuclear', co-habs, a trio of roomies - whatever - than to get active outdoors. Harbourfront Centre has got your fun sorted for you! From 10 to 10 today, you can head down to York Quay Centre at TO's beautiful waterfront, and skate on Canada's largest 'artificially-cooled' outdoor rink. Skate and helmet rentals are available on site - get out there!
Harbourfront Centre (235 Queens Quay West) 10AM

FILM | EARLY MONTHLY SEGMENTS #36 = Barbara Hammer + Kurt Kren
Early Monthly segments returns to the Gladstone Hotel tonight to compare and contrast two seemingly disparate filmmakers: Barbara Hammer and Kurt Kren. Hammer is an experimental American filmmaker who produced some of the first known "lesbian-made" films tackling issues of gender, family, and other sociological matters. Among many other accolades, Hammer received the first Shirley Clarke Avant-Garde Filmmaker Award. Kurt Kren was an Austrian filmmaker who has been associated with both the Structural and the Viennese Actionism movements at different points in his career. Various short films by both Hammer and Kren will be screened, and a post screening discussion is encouraged.
Gladstone Hotel, Art Bar (1214 Queen St West) 7:30PM PWYC ($5 suggested)

THEATRE | Les Coquettes Speakeasy
If you are looking for something a little off the beaten track, with a high level of entertainment, rooted firmly in history, but still edgy and risque as ever, Les Coquettes' brand of burlesque dinner cabaret is just for you! The team at Les Coquettes has joined forces with TO chef extraordinaire Christopher Woods to concoct an awesome menu that will knock your socks off, and the show that follows will take care of the rest!
Revival (783 College Street) 6PM $20 - $85

FILM | Bell Free Family Day Weekend at the TIFF Lightbox
Looking for something to do with the family today that doesn't break the bank. Head on down to the TIFF Lightbox, where all the screenings are free. There are a variety of family friendly cinema-oriented events as well.
350 King Street West, All day, Free

FILM | Trans Film Screening Series: "Collected Shorts"
The 'powers that be' at the Trans Film Screening Series have concluded that since February is the shortest month, an evening of short film is in order! These films are by and about "trans people of colour", and this includes Asian, Thai, Philipino, African, and other ethnicities, giving a worldly view of the 'trans' experience. This could be important viewing for anyone who feels isolated or marginalized, and could benefit from seeing their experience shared on a 'global' level. It could also be fun movie night, too! Free snacks will be provided, and an open discussion will follow the screening.
William Doo Auditorium (45 Willcocks Street) 6:30PM
