PARTIES

Friday Night Live @ ROM Presents: Music
This week's instalment of the ROM's weekly, adults-only, after-hours party focuses on music through the electric violin of Dr. Draw--who'll be tackling the work of Beethoven--a Yoga Rave in the ROM Rec Room guided by Lululemon and Iam Yoga Inc., and drink prices starting at $5.
The ROM (100 Queen's Park), 6pm, tickets are $9.

Luminato
Luminato returns to the streets of Toronto for its sixth year, with its signature multi-disciplinary showcase of the city's finest artists in theatre, music, dance, film and more. The festival launches this weekend and takes place at various locations throughout the city, so be sure to refer to the website and our handy preview for how to best plan your days.

Promise Party at Sunnyside Pavilion
Although their legendary Cherry Beach parties haven't started yet, you can get a taste of Promise this Saturday when they team up with milk and Brooks Events for an outdoor garden party. You can even take a quick stroll down to the lake afterwards.

The People's Fundraiser
The People's Fundraiser's goal is to garner proceeds for the North Korean Human Rights Film Festival and raise awareness for the violations taking place in the region. The evening will feature prizes, live music, and the announcement of the festival (July 6-8) line-up.

Summerworks Launch Party
Toronto independent theatre and arts festival kicks off with a party hosted by Ron Pedersen. The design and Music and Live Art Series will be announced, with performances from Atomic Vaudeville and Nina Arsenault, and food courtesy of Lakeview Restaurant.

MOVIES

Twin Peaks at the Beaver
If you've never viewed Twin Peaks, you simply must, and if you have, then you understand why this evening of the most-requested Twin Peaks episodes, augmented by samples from David Lynch's soundtracks, and even free organic coffee and cherry pie until midnight, is a can't-miss event. Costumes are encouraged, and there will be prizes.

MUSIC

Blues and Brews at the Barn
It's a good formula: bring together two top local blues performers, Danny Marks and Bill King, food by Barque Smokehouse, drinks by Amsterdam Brewery, and a silent auction, all for a good cause. Proceeds from the evening benefit the Wychwood Barns Community Association.

Worldwide Knit in Public Day
A worldwide event run by knitters, and intended for knitters, Worldwide Knit in Public Day touches down in Toronto at Wise Daughters in the Junction. This year's morning event features breakfast goodies from Locomotive and Tea Blendz.

THEATRE

Luminato: Einstein on the Beach
Debuting as part of Luminato, Einstein on the Beach is the groundbreaking 4-act operatic collaboration between theatre's Robert Wilson and composer Phillip Glass. This new production marks the first time it's been performed in North America outside of New York City.
Sony Centre for the Performing Arts (1 Front Street East), June 8 and 9 at 6pm, June 10 at 3 pm, tickets range between $49-$175.

The Drinks Show
Cocktail connoisseurs (and lovers of good food) take note. The 2012 Drinks Show lets you witness rock, paper, scissors and whisky cocktail competitions, enjoy local DJs and gourmet snacks, get an airbrush tattoo, or enjoy $2 cocktail samples or $7 full-size cocktails.

Poetea & Jam
High tea meets poetry at this afternoon of words, ceremonial tea performances, and sweet snacks. Held at Harvest Noon vegan cafe, the event will feature experienced and novice poets alike.

COMEDY

Get Hypnotized by Gabriello Pitman
Hypnosis and comedy might not seem like a natural pairing--what with your elders warning you not to mock the supernatural--but Gabriello Pitman excels at suggestion and misdirection and is ready to make you question your preconceived notions. You might walk away clucking like a chicken, but hey, that's part of the fun.
