Provocative American playwright Alan Bowne's Beirut examines the promiscuity and sexual energy that emerges when the government sanctions a "no intimate contact" order in an area of New York City during a deadly disease outbreak. Opening tonight at Unit 102 Theatre, the story of the infected Torch and his uninfected girlfriend Blue being quietly intimate in Beirut, the quarantined section of New York where the infected live, is one that portrays desire and passion in their rawest forms. Tuesday ticket prices are pay-what-you-can so tonight is the night for a little romp in Beirut.

FASHION & DESIGN | Talking Tutus with Caroline O'Brien
Caroline O'Brien has made a global career out of costume design. The former resident designer and wardrobe supervisor for Canada's National Ballet School and costume designer for major ballet schools and theatre companies worldwide will be presenting a special talk and behind-the-scenes tour of Design Exchange's 60 Years of Designing the Ballet exhibit tonight. The exhibit curator, O'Brien will give an in-depth lecture on the tutu and its traditional and historical role in the ballet as well as contemporary perspectives on what is so much more than just a skirt. The lecture is free for Design Exchange members and the exhibit is open until September 2nd.

THEATRE | Caribbean Dream
With the Caribana festival just around the corner, Marvin Trini Ishmael's adaptation of Shakeapeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream opens at the Annex Theatre tonight. Set in the islands, Caribbean Dream retells the story of the famous four lovers manipulated by mischievous fairies. With live music, dancers and acrobats all working in a Caribana arts style, the performance is an excellent way to open the festival for those counting down the days to the big parade.

MUSIC | Craig Stickland
Toronto singer-songwriter Craig Stickland has been steadily climbing the local folk roots music scene ranks for the past two years and tonight, he plays the Drake yet again. Having recently returned from L.A. after recording his new record, Craig brings his five-piece roots rock band to perform some new tracks as well as some old from his debut EP Art of Conviction. Fellow musicians Tim Moxam and Gavin Slate will join Strickland to add some folk soul to the evening. Tickets are $8 in advance and doors open at 7:30PM.
