Civic Holiday Monday events in Toronto 2012

Civic Holiday Monday events in Toronto 2012:

MUSIC | Aloe Blacc with BADBADNOTGOOD at The Hoxton
This double bill at The Hoxton will serve up more groove than you can handle. Aloe Blacc brings the soul, the experience and the style to the party tonight. His track record speaks for itself; it's coming up on two decades of music making for this Orange County native, who began as one half of the rap duo Emanon. BadBadNotGood have the freshness of a relatively newly-launched project, and this remarkable trio's fusion of jazz, hiphop and electro has been creating serious buzz for a while now, landing them some sweet gigs, including a recent 'band-in-residence' spot at Coachella 2012. Should be good.
The Hoxton (69 Bathurst Street) 8PM $20

CULTURE | JAMBANA FESTIVAL 2012
The Jambana Festival will celebrate 50 years of Jamaican independence this afternoon in Downsview Park, and has been deemed the 'official' Canadian commemorative event by the Government of Jamaica. This event is a great closer to the long weekend, and promises a day of "music, dance, comedy, and edutainment." Musical guests will include Andrew Tosh, Byron Lee's Dragonaires, Divine Brown, Exco Levi, and others. A special gaggle of hosts--Oliver Samuels, Allan Jones, Blakka Ellis, and T-RexXx--will keep things right on track.
Downsview Park (35 Carl Hall Road) 1PM

CLUBS | MANIC MONDAYS -- RETRO 80's
DJ Shannon's "Manic Mondays" at The Dance Cave will not be taking a holiday tonight! After all, there's a reason she was voted Now Magazine's "Best DJ" last year - she works hard! Very few can equal her knowledge of, or sophisticated taste in retro tracks from decades past. This regular Monday night shindig is all about those classic tunes from new wave, punk, ska, industrial and other genres from days of yore that still have the power to bring a dancefloor to life. It doesn't hurt that there's no cover, either.
Dance Cave (529 Bloor Street West) 10PM

MUSIC | Yuka at The Drake
Yuka will be serving up their own special brand of funk at a free show in the Drake Hotel lounge tonight. This tight, horn-driven band likes powerful arrangements that showcase their awesome front line, and their sound shows a genuine respect for history and tradition, especially funk and groove pioneers like James Brown, The Meters, and others. Some great, danceable times to be had here!
Drake Hotel (1150 Queen Street West) 11PM
