Thanksgiving Monday events in Toronto 2012:
MUSIC | Nick Waterhouse and Allah Las at Great Hall
Tonight, The Great Hall hosts some California sounds and talent that you won't want to miss. LA singer/songwriter Nick Waterhouse comes from an underground scene in Orange County that has a retro sensibility, taking inspiration from the music of "pre-Beatles" America: early '60s soul and R'n'B. Waterhouse's recordings in this vein were so authentic sounding and true to form, that he went on to produce the other band on tonight's bill, Innovative Leisure labelmates, the Allah Las, who share a similar "vintage vision," but lean more towards a surf-influenced, reverb-drenched sound that is being lapped up by fans of contemporary underground psych rock.

FOOD | Brewer's Backyard - Oktoberfest
The final Brewer's Backyard event of the year takes place this afternoon at the Koerner Gardens and Holcim Gallery of the Evergreen Brick Works. This regular event has been the place to be if you like to sample the wares of different microbreweries in a spacious and comfortable venue, and paired with some great food. This afternoon's edition of the Brewer's Backyard, celebrating Oktoberfest has been playfully dubbed Torontoberfest, and will feature some favourites from Beau's All-Natural Brewing Company including their beloved Lug Tread Lagered Ale, Night Marzen, and the currently in-season, pumpkin-infused Weiss O'Lantern beer. Be sure to pop by, or you will have to wait until Brewer's Backyard returns next year.
Evergreen Brick Works (550 Bayview Avenue) 12PM
MUSIC | Elvis Monday
Yes, even on a Thanksgiving Monday, Elvis is still in the building and the lights are on! TO's longest running, no-cover underground rock showcase hosted this city's earliest performances by acts like By Divine Right, Beck, Peaches, and many others. Tonight the tradition continues with an above-average lineup: Diana (featuring Carmen Elle of Donlands and Mortimer), Peter Arsenault (formerly of Jellyfishbabies and Doughboys - rumoured to have Neil Exall of The Mercurymen with him on guitar), Poppyseed and the Love Explosion (featuring Mitch Perkins from Rusty), ripplegangerst, and more.
