The top 5 free events in Toronto: October 5-11 2015

The top free events in Toronto will have you getting geeky at MaRS Discovery District and putting on your best Beyonce impression at The Gladstone. On Tuesday, the tech-inclined will flock to MaRS for a lesson on virtual reality. If that's not your cup of tea, warm up your vocal chords and head to The Gladstone on Thursday for a night of karaoke.

Here's what to do if you just paid rent.

The St. Royals (October 5)
Make this Monday a little less boring by kicking off your week with a free concert at the Drake Lounge. Soul and funk music is the name of the game for the St. Royals, so if you like to dance this one's for you.

WWTO's BIG Virtual Reality Event (October 6)
If you want to embrace your inner geek, head to MaRS Discovery District this Tuesday. You'll see the gear and learn all about Virtual Reality with leading companies like CFC, OccupiedVR, Secret Location, and Cubicle Ninjas. Plus, it will get you amped up for other tech events happening in Toronto this fall.

Dave Bookman's Nu Music Night (October 6)
As per usual, Tuesday night shows are cost-free at the Horseshoe Tavern. This week Voodoo, Rob Jankowski, Hello Harvard, and Hero Biscuit will be playing sets from 9pm onwards. Expect to find the crowd full of new music lovers.

Shameless Karaoke (October 9-10)
Let out your inner Mariah Carey by belting out high notes at the Gladstone Melody Bar this Friday and Saturday. You'll probably need a little bit of liquid courage, so I suggest pre-gaming for this one.

Bellwoods Flea (October 10)
Do a little window shopping this Saturday at the Bellwoods Flea. If you can't resist spending while checking out the goods, opt to play a retro video game or catch a screening of a classic movie (they'll be playing all day). And, if you're not feeling overly stingy, you can purchase food and drinks for under ten bucks.
