Weekend events in Toronto: November 27-29 2015

Weekend events in Toronto will make retro cinephiles happy. While film festivals are great for getting a taste of what's new in the world of movies, there are a few classics that never get old. The Princess Bride and JAWS are two of those. Not into those? Never fear, there's plenty of holiday-themed events to check out.

MUSIC

Dilly Dally (November 27)
Toronto's grunge revival continues unabated with Dilly Dally, whose Buzz Records debut received the Pitchfork stamp of approval last month. A big tour brings them back to the homeland this weekend with friends The Beverleys and Vallens.

The Paper Kites (November 28)
Australian indie rockers The Paper Kites will be hitting the stage at Lee's Palace this Saturday. Unfortunately, if you want to get your hands on some tickets you'll have to turn to StubHub (where the price has spiked to more than double their initial cost).

Dragonette, Young Empires and Dirty Radio (November 29)
If you're a fan of Canadian music, you'll want to be at the Danforth Music Hall on Sunday night. Toronto band Dragonette will be joined by Young Empires and Dirty Radio for a show featuring their latest and greatest.

MOVIES

Blood in the Snow Film Festival (November 27-29)
If you didn't get enough thrills and chills at Toronto After Dark, head to the Blood in the Snow Film Festival this weekend. The event flaunts a roster of contemporary Canadian horror shorts and feature films that will curb your craving for all things frightful. You can see this year's full lineup here.

The Princess Bride Quote-Along (November 28)
Everyone's favourite quirky '80s adventure/fantasy/comedy is returning to the big screen this Saturday for one night only. Head to the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema where you can relive the masterpiece while quoting along with Prince Humperdinck, Inigo Montoya and company.

Rainbow Rewind Film Classics: JAWS (November 28)
The Princess Bride isn't the only throwback movie on tap this Saturday. If you prefer flicks that get your adrenaline pumping, head to Rainbow Cinemas to catch a screening of Jaws. Word to the wise: if you have a scuba diving vacation coming up, you may want to skip this one.

Bad Movie Night Toronto presents Miami Connection (November 29)
Think Jaws is cheesy but just not cheesy enough? Have no fear, Bad Movie Night is returning to Clinton's Tavern on Sunday. The event is marking its third anniversary and to celebrate it's screening one of the worst movies in its library: Miami Connection.

ART

The Salon of Inclusiveness II (November 26-January 1)
Head to Black Cat for the most inclusive art show of the year, featuring works from a variety of mediums and artists. There's no theme, so you can expect the unexpected. If you can't make it out this weekend, don't fret, the show runs until January 1. Check out what when down last year in the photo gallery.

Photorama 2015 (November 27)
TPWs 29th annual fundraising exhibition is kicking off this Friday, showcasing works by over 100 artists. You'll find photographs by well known Canadian artists like Edward Burtynsky, Geoffrey James, Chris Curreri, Robyn Cumming and a few promising new faces. Most works are priced under $600, so it's a great option if you're looking to start a collection.

SHOPPING

One of a Kind Show (November 26-December 6)
If you find the Black Friday weekend mayhem at malls a little intimidating, opt to do your shopping at the One of a Kind show. It has officially kicked off, bringing all the handcrafted goods you could ever want to the Direct Energy Centre.

Happy Hour Market (November 28)
Head to The End this Saturday to shop at a female powered pop-up. There will be goods by plenty of Toronto-based vendors, including Sick Girls, Tough Luck and many more. If you'd rather skip shopping, you can always grab a cocktail and jam to the all-female playlist.

The Leslieville Flea Holiday Market (November 29)
Spend your Sunday rummaging around the Leslieville Flea for some locally made treasures. If you don't want to brave the Eaton Centre for gift shopping, this makes for a great alternative.

HOLIDAY

Cavalcade of Lights (November 28)
The Cavalcade of Lights, now in its 49th year, returns to Nathan Phillips Square on Saturday. Get in the holiday spirit by watching the fireworks display and lighting of the city's Christmas tree. The skating rink will also be open, but it will be very busy. If you're not in the area, there are smaller scale light ceremonies in and Rosedale.

PHOTO CHALLENGE

Will you be attending Cavalcade of Lights this Saturday? If so, be sure to tag your photos of the event on Instagram with #blogTOCavalcade for a chance to win prizes and be featured on the blogTO home page. Prizes include:
