The top 5 free events in Toronto: July 18-24 2016

The top free events in Toronto this week are happening in some pretty hot spots. Drake dance lessons at Union Station? A celebration of identity and house music at the AGO? A party for your imagination on Toronto Island? I hope you have a bike, or a lot of patience to take the TTC this week, 'cause these free events will take you on a ride.

Here's what to get up to in Toronto if all you've got is lint in your pockets.

Beginner Drake dance class (July 19)
Join the Underground Dance Centre's George Absi at Union Station during the Union Summer programming on Front Street as he teaches us our favourite Drake moves. You might think that creepy uncle dance from the "Hotline Bling" video was an accident, but trust me, it very much was not.

Theaster Gates (July 20)
There's a late-night celebration for the opening of the Theaster Gates show at the AGO. Part talk and part party, this free night is an that exhibition uses music, dance, signage, video, artwork and archival documents (many of which are related to the black and queer experience) to explore how and what museums communicate.

Jurassic Park in LV Park (July 22)
Watching the latest Jurassic Park for free in a park in Liberty Village with a bunch of summer-minded folk sounds undeniably fun, right? Right. The movie starts after 8:30 p.m., and there are other surprises beforehand. Bring a blanket.

Unity Festival Concert (July 23)
This music and culture fest at Yonge-Dundas Square is brought to you by the amazing Unity group. It may be an organization geared towards a younger city audience, but this festival day (from 1 p.m. - 11 p.m.) will feature music from DAM FUNK, Zaki Ibrahim and The Soul Motivators. Film screenings and a live graffiti wall are also happening.

Figment (July 23)
Redefining how you interact with art, this little festival on Toronto Island (Gibraltar Point to be exact) will feature many large scale interactive artworks. Seriously, just show up with zero expectations and let your mind run free. Last year's fest included a giant fish, forest sound loops, and an intergalactic garden. The only thing that'll cost you is the ferry/water taxi ride over.

Do you have a free event this week you think we all need to know about? Let us know in the comments and let's get free!
