Toronto is getting an event to celebrate the Festival of Sanremo
Toronto is about to get a taste of Italy's most famous music festival — and I don't just mean that metaphorically — at the city's first-ever event that pays homage to the Festival di Sanremo.
Taking place annually in Sanremo, Italy, the Sanremo Music Festival — also known as the Italian Song Festival — is the longest-running annual televized music competition in the world, with aspiring Italian musicians going head-to-head on the festival stage every year since 1951.
A phenomenon of historic proportions in the festival's home country, it was only a matter of time before the hype trickled across the pond, and audiences in Toronto get into the fun as well.
That inevitable day has officially come, as Little Italy's Revival gears up to host their very own Sanremo Music Festival celebration on Feb. 22, which promises to be paradise for any and all Italian music lovers.
Organized by Serata, a collective who plan Italian nights out and parties in the city year-round, you can be sure that their first-ever Sanremo soiree will be a slam-dunk.
The event, billed as "Toronto's first-ever Festival di Sanremo dance party experience," is set to feature an aperativo hour, complete with a bounty of Italian appetizers, a number of interactive experiences like a bloom bar from Plantita & Co. and a Sanremo Song Lab where you can "connect and create with fellow Italian music lovers."
Since music is the entire reason for the season, be prepared to spend a decent proportion of your time on the dance floor, which will be brought to life with a chart-topping lineup of Sanremo hits from DJ Pulsar.
Because it's only appropriate, Toronto's very own SanRemo Bakery, which is widely regarded as one of the best Italian bakeries in the city, will also be making an appearance at the party, supplying revellers with their fill of complimentary donuts and pastries.
The festival kicks off at 9 p.m. and will ramble on into the wee hours — everyone knows that Italians can party — and, since all the free bites included in the price of your ticket are first-come-first-serve, so nota bene: you'll probably want to arrive on the earlier side.
Tickets, priced at $30 per person, are available now through Eventbrite.
