49 South Service Road Mississauga

A police station in Mississauga is on sale for $1

If you don't recognize this building that might be a good sign.

49 South Service Road in Mississauga used to be home to the Ontario Provincial Police but not anymore –  it's now up for sale for $1!

The 8,000-square-foot institutional building sits on a polygonal plot of land at the corner of the QEW and Hurontario Street in Mississauga.

The property includes: an OPP Detachment, garage, and surface parking lot.

It became vacant when it was deemed "surplus to provincial needs" after the OPP relocated to a new facility, Infrastructure Ontario Communications Manager Jeff Giffen told blogTO.

Infrastructure Ontario still manages this property on behalf of the provincial government and the reason it's listed for only $1 is because they want to make sure the sale is fair and of best value for taxpayers.

Also it's so the sale is competitive and open to anyone, according to Giffen.

But this is fairly common with the sale of provincially-owned properties.

While the building might still be in decent condition and could be used for a future purpose, the listing still positions 49 South Service Road as "vacant land" and as a "redevelopment opportunity"

The City of Mississauga has zoned this land as residential, particularly a low density residential area – so it would be ideal for something like townhouses.

Especially considering there's been significant gentrification in the area with multiple developments going up in the surrounding area.

It's also well located with amenities close by as well as quick access to transit links and highways.

And even though this spot will likely turn into a mid-rise condo or infill housing I hope they at least make a nod to it's OPP roots somehow.
