New ultra-skinny condo tower in Toronto will include a new steakhouse
A super-slender luxury condo tower under construction in Toronto is shaping up to be a classy new landmark in the posh Yorkville neighbourhood.
The long-awaited 50 Scollard development is now topping out 41 storeys above Bay Street, and its impressive design by award-winning U.K.-based architects Foster + Partners is quickly coming to fruition through the installation of exterior details.
But Yorkville's next architectural landmark won't just be candy for the eyes, and will boast a newly-announced restaurant that would make the building a destination for the fine dining crowd.
Construction kicked off at the site back in 2021, when buildings at the corner of Bay and Scollard were relocated to the east, and drilling began for the new tower.
Approaching four years later, the much-anticipated build from Lanterra Developments has ascended to its final height of almost 148 metres and is quickly living up to the images advertised in preconstruction renderings.
Meanwhile, with structural completion imminent, the tower's exterior finishes are rapidly enclosing the lower floors ahead of their interior fit-outs.
And, as with any high-profile project in this part of town, the interiors will be lavish, to say the least.
The project will feature 129 suites units ranging from 1,200 to over 5,000 square feet, with the majority of units featuring elevator doors that open directly into the unit, and the majority of floors restricted to just one or two units.
Residents will be able to get in on what the developer touts as "five-star" amenities that will include chauffeured house car service for resident use, valet parking, and even a wine lounge, boasting interiors from acclaimed designer Alessandro Munge of Studio Munge.
However, it wasn't until this week that purchasers within the exclusive development learned of what could prove the most sought-after on-site amenity in the building, with the reveal of a new upscale restaurant that will occupy the building.
On Thursday, Lanterra announced that Salt Grass & Rare will open at 50 Scollard later this year.
Restaurateurs Michael Dabic and Derek Von Raesfeld, known for haunts like The Butcher Chef, Oliver's Steakhouse, and Michael's On Simcoe, plan to open the new restaurant in the development once construction wraps up in mid-2025.
The restaurant will offer a dining room, bar, lounge, and a large terrace set within a green space with water features.
Michael Dabic, co-owner of Salt Grass & Rare, called the restaurant a "unique twist on the modern steakhouse" and boasted that "its focus on culinary excellence will also showcase the latest trends and developments in architecture, design, and art."
Salt Grass & Rare's opening date, along with menu details and images of the new fine dining establishment, is expected to be revealed this spring.
