Good Gang Ice Cream

Good Gang Ice Cream offers American style ice cream in Toronto. Sisters Margaret and Kat Bolinas pride themselves on using local, fresh and seasonal ingredients in their flavour rotations.

Ice cream making was just a hobby that started after their parents gifted them an ice cream machine 10 years ago. In 2017, Kat managed to get a spot in the coveted Ice Cream course at Penn State University - purely because she loved the frozen dessert.

They're inspired by their childhood memories of the Philippines, travels, and they definitely aren't afraid to push the boundaries. "We like being in the kitchen, experimenting with flavours," explains Margaret.

Seasonal ingredients are a key factor in their offerings. They have citrus and rhubarb jams in the rotation of add-ins in the winter, and blackcurrant that they pick themselves at Brooks Farms and Andrews Farms in the summer.

They also bake their own Miso Chocolate cookies ($9) and Cardamom Eclairs ($8) for sandwiches on the weekends.

A must try flavour is Toast- which uses a rye sourdough loaf from Blackbird Baking Company with swirls of seasonal jams. It's true to its moniker, it tastes like a perfect piece of toast.

A generous squeeze of house made flan on the Ube Flan is a match made in heaven with a scoop of Pink Guava Coconut sorbet. A double scoop is $8.50.

Another great flavour is Cà-Phê-Misu, a twist on tiramisu using Vietnamese coffee. Their most popular flavour is the Unos Dos Tres Leches.

A trip to Hawaii and seeing the rainbow varieties of mochi everywhere inspired Mango Chi Chi Dango, the famous Military Latte at Sawada Coffee they had in Chicago inspired Majicha Brownie.

A recreation of a Canadian childhood favourite Tiger Tail can be found in O’Tarragon.

There are no cones here, everything is served in eco-friendly cups, platters, or silver coupes for in-store eating. You can also grab pints ($12) of your favourite flavours or try them in a Snack scoop ($3) or Single ($5).

"We didn’t really plan to have an ice cream business- we want ice cream to be fun and for everyone," hopes Margaret.

Good Gang Ice Cream can be found at their new home in Cabbagetown.
