Kellys Landing is part of The Landing Group of restaurants, and out of many splashy restaurants this has to be one of their most high-energy locations, encompassing indoor and outdoor elements in a massive space that used to be a Casey’s.

This is the ninth location in the restaurant empire, meant to stand as a kind of flagship location with a greatest hits menu from executive chef Tristan D’Souza featuring time-honoured dishes with some fresh new items.

Tuna poke ($16) is one app introduced here for the first time, done pretty smartly with tasty fried wonton chips and simple ingredients like cucumber, avocado, and ponzu dressing.

Brisket mac n’ cheese ($11) is billed as an app but could probably stand in as a cheaper bar main. There's a 10 day brine and several hour smoke on the brisket, which is layered over rich mac and cheese. This dish is also available at their Don Mills location.

A steak and tomato salad ($22) packs a punch for what looks like a smaller plate, huge protein-packed chunks of grilled flatiron steak slotted between beefy slices of heirloom tomato under arugula, with chimichurri, goat cheese, fried artichokes, and blueberry mignonette.

Righteous Greens ($19) is for once a warm totally vegan full-on entree, still with the typical feel of a mish mash of veg on top of grains, but here they're warm and there's hearty chunks of potato that make this healthy option feel filling for omnivores, too.

Lobster fettucine ($36) is the impress-your-date showstopper, always with exactly a whole pound-and-a-quarter lobster incorporated, money shot claws and tail intact, pasta swimming in an abundance of sherry tarragon cream, mushrooms, and leeks.

A Honey Smash ($13) is made with a house mix of strawberries, raspberry, honey, lime, and mint. It's three parts to one and a half parts Absolut, so these drinks are fast and easy to order but have a naturally sweet, herby flavour that feels high end.

The Simcoe ($12) puts a twist on a mojito made with Havana Club 3 Year by adding green apple and a splash of Somersby cider to the usual mint and lime. Apple has a tough time competing with strong mojito flavours, but this at least has a different feel and look.

Kellys Landing is all bulky genuine leather chairs, sparkly wine fridges, and 100-watt smiles at this slick touristy spot right across from Union.
