Maker Pizza has taken over a massive unit on Cameron north of Queen that you're unlikely to find unless you go looking for it. Not that you need to find this place; they'll find you.

The pizzeria intends to operate primarily as a delivery operation and is equipped so that delivery drivers queue up in their cars then roll up to a window serviced directly by the kitchen once a light goes off indicating that orders are ready for pick-up.

The plan is to ensure every order is accurate and it lets the counter staff concentrate solely on walk-ins and diners eating at the long communal table upfront.

Owner Shlomo Buchler was formerly a partner at FBI Pizza and has brought on Matty Matheson ( Parts & Labour ) as the consulting chef to create a lineup of high quality pizzas, Buffalo wings, salads, hot Italian sandwiches and cold cut heros.

The opening menu features 10 signature pies but the plan is to offer rotating features and seasonal varieties. For now options include the the Apocalypse Cow ($17/$27/$33) which pairs mini meatballs with peperoncini, red onions, and roasted red peppers over a red base, and the Cool Hand Zuch ($14/$22/$25) featuring zucchini, ricotta, lemon zest and mint.

I try Frank's Best ($14/$22/$25) featuring caramelized onions, roasted garlic, goat cheese and rosemary on a white base composed of parm, olive oil, fior di latte and mozzarella. The crust is thin, firm and foldable, and sprinkled with sesame seeds and drizzled with honey (which tastes awesome, but leaves me with unmanageable sticky fingers).

The Caprese Salad seems quite pricey at $14, but I'm relieved to discover that this isn't just a few measly bits of good stuff over filler greens. It's an impressive salad that alternates layers of sliced tomato with what must be an entire ball of fior di latte.

From the selection of sandwiches, I sample the eggplant parm ($12). It's loaded with thick fried slices of breaded eggplant with mozzarella melted over top. Caramelized onions and roasted peppers, both sweet and spicy, dress it up with some tang.

Delivery, once in full force, will likely cover a five kilometre radius from the shop, which means that pizza enthusiasts from Roncy to Broadview might soon have a delicious alternative to FBI's two hour delivery window.
