Mascot Brewery
Mascot Brewery is the quintessential King Street patio, pouring up sours and giant mugs of pilsner.
After losing out on their beloved rooftop space to the Robert De Niro-backed Nobu, the beer garden relocated by taking over the old digs of the subterraneous Mexican tequila bar El Caballito.
The interior isn't anything much to phone home about, since the star of the show is really Mascot's revival of Caballito's patio.
Unless the weather doesn't permit it, you'll want to head directly to the back and up the stairs, where you'll emerge onto the festive outdoor patio. It hasn't changed drastically since it was Caballito's El Patio.
Crowds of post-work suits and weekend warriors cluster around the shipping container.Chances are, you'll have to wait before grabbing a coveted seat beneath the overhanging patio lights, or share a picnic table, which is cool if you're down to make friends.
Beers on tap come in more sizes than the regular bar, ranging from 5 0z ($3.54) to whopping 32-oz beer steins ($13.27) of Mascot's rotating brews.
Grab a flight of four brews ($12 to $14) to try a bit of everything, like their super popular Gold Rush or a new addition, their American oak barrel-aged Farmhouse, which are usually $7.08 for a 14-oz glass.
Back by popular demand is the Waterfelon ($15), a super refreshing gin and watermelon cocktail with rose essence, straight from the tap.
A Mascot Mule ($16) is laden with fruity flavours, thanks to strawberry-infused Summit vodka, pineapple star anise bitters, and ginger-laced punch.
The menu implores guests not to steal these copper mugs, which leads me to believe it's happened more than a handful of times.
Food-wise, the menu has expanded slightly, with some favourites still intact. The popcorn carbonara ($6), covered in parmesan cheese and lardon bits, is fun finger food.
Lightly cured seabream ceviche ($16) brings rhubarb, pickled chilli, soy nuts, and little smears of avocado crema together in a colourful dish, if you're craving something light.
Mac and Cheese ($14) has been revamped with a different cheese blend that includes cheese sauce made from Mascot's lager, Quebec cheese curds, and a garlic bread crumble. Maybe spice it up with their housemade jalapeno sauce.
The Bang Bang soft shell crab ($20) is a tasty deep fried whole crab with tempura batter and a spicy mayo-esque sauce.
For something sweet, the "Pop Tart" ($8) is a from-scratch version of your childhood fave.
Crust is filled with strawberry rhubarb pie filling and topped with cream cheese icing, sprinkles, and dehydrated strawberries for a throwback treat to go with your adult libations.
