R Sushi
R Sushi is a Japanese restaurant serving aburi rolls, oshi sushi and decked out bowls of donburi.
Located not far from Finch station, this sushi bar is packing up boxes of takeout for folks treating themselves to creamy, seared sushi at all times of the day.
While the interior of the restaurant is nothing to phone home about, R Sushi's over-the-top and colourful presentation is what sets it apart.
R Sushi's extensive menu runs the gamut from sashimi platters to fried appetizers.
The chicken karaage is pricier than other fried chicken orders elsewhere, explained by the decorative flecks of edible gold leaves.
Two pieces of baby octopus are $7.95.
The most popular items here are definitely the aburi-style sushi rolls and oshi, or box-pressed, sushi.
Oshi sushi options include salmon, tuna, eel ($15.99 per order) or scallop ($16.99).
All seared sushi gets a layer of signature cheesy sauce before chefs flame-torch it. The result is a warm, gooey serving with eight pieces each.
A torched sushi combo gets you two pieces of every option on the menu. Otherwise nigiri like salmon, tuna, red snapper, and squid comes individually for $6.95, three pieces per order.
The Aburi Nami Roll ($15.95) is a stunner, with blue-dyed flower petals, torched salmon cheese sauce, deep-fried shrimp, avocado and spicy crabmeat.
Radish slices brighten up the Ninja roll ($14.95) with spicy salmon, crabmeat, torched salmon and mayo.
There are about 10 donburi options served in compact boxes. Chirashi rice can be topped with an array of ingredients like shrimp, fish eggs, salmon sashimi or even uni.
R Sushi also has a slew of party platters and sashimi bowls. Essentially, this Japanese restaurant has you covered for all your sushi needs, though flame-seared sushi is undoubtedly the main attraction.
