Rock Oasis

When my friends first invited me to go rock-climbing, I thought they were insane. I've never been one to spend a ton of money for the privilege of potentially killing myself. I told them no, and not to bother asking again. After a year of their pestering I gave in...with obvious misgivings.

Their gym of choice was the Rock Oasis, a converted warehouse with walls ranging in height from 30 feet up to 60 feet and a number of bouldering caves. The prices, I discovered, were not as high as I'd feared. $5 shoes, $14 day pass and $5 harness--which I would not be using as I would not be going up any walls.

After my first day of bouldering, I had to admit I was hooked. I purchased a membership ($100 initial, then $30 a month...cheaper than my regular gym) and began bouldering on a regular basis. And, after a few months, they even had me climbing a 30 foot wall. Me!

Since joining, I have converted nearly all of my friends into climbers. The Rock Oasis makes everyone comfortable with its bright and fun atmosphere and supportive staff. Although the walls might be intimidating, everyone is more than willing to offer an encouraging word and a helping hand. And you can't beat the workout--you'll be feeling it after day one.
