Magic Grand Prix this weekend at the Toronto Congress Centre

Magic Mayhem in Toronto this Weekend

Time to break out your land cards and hope to god that your Circle of Protection spell can hold off the onslaught of Pygmy Hippos and Trygon Predators. Yes folks, Magic: The Gathering, that card game you played back in middle school, is back. Actually, take that back: it never really went away.

Since its creation in 1993, Magic: The Gathering has held steady popularity throughout the years, and is now considered one of the most successful collectible card games in history. Wizards of the Coast, the company that produces the cards, runs a tournament schedule designed to bring together the almost six million players in over seventy countries worldwide that compete in duels.

This weekend, Magic mayhem arrives in Toronto with the 2006 Magic Grand Prix at the Toronto Congress Centre running from June 2-4, with over $25,000 in prizes to be won. The tournament features an amateur division, so if you're itching to get back to summoning your Icy Manipulator artifact by tapping four mana cards, feel free to stop by, even if you haven't played in years. And don't worry about the cards, they'll provide you with a game deck as well. Which is good, because I have no clue where I put my Lord of the Undead.
