New Babe Ruth Statue at Hanlan's Point

The Toronto Blue Jays play the New York Yankees tonight... a great match-up, but one with a little more significance on this particulary day.

Today is the day that Heritage Toronto unveiled a new commemorative plaque at Hanlan's Point, the spot where legend, Babe Ruth, hit his first (and only) minor league home run on Sept 5th, 1914.

According to legend, the 3-run homer, against our own Toronto Maple Leafs, was blasted right out into Lake Ontario, never to be recovered. Ruth was promptly brought over to the majors by the Boston Red Sox.

As I write this, everyone from Jays CEO, Paul Godfrey, to city councillors and Tom Stevens - Babe Ruth's Grandson - are at Hanlan's for the unveiling.
