Skate With Degrassi Stars Tonight at Natrel Rink
Looking for something fun to do this evening? Strap on your ice skates and hang out with your Degrassi friends at the Natrel Rink at Harbourfront Centre tonight.
Harbourfront Centre's SK8 CULTURE program begins with classic Degrassi TV episodes screened from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Studio Theatre. Then stars from Degrassi: The Next Generation spin music at a DJ SK8 Night from 8 to 11 p.m.
This free DJ SK8 Night, marks the 25th anniversary of the Natrel Rink at Harbourfront, Canada's largest artificially cooled outdoor rink. The Degrassi TV series has been a successful franchise for at least that long.
Hang with a bunch of the cast members from Degrassi: The Next Generation as they spin tunes at the Natrel Rink while you spin around the rink. There will be show promo and prizes handed out.
Popular Degrassi episodes that will be screened earlier at the Studio Theatre include these fun teenage soap opera classics. Some of these plots are eerily familiar to me still:
Degrassi Jr. High -- It's Late
Shane and Spike have unprotected sex with each other at Lucy's party. This results in Spike becoming pregnant.
Degrassi Jr. High -- Pa-arty!
Lucy has a party while her parents are away, but she doesn't tell Clutch as she is worried that he will bring booze and get drunk. Joey, Snake and Wheels get Clutch to buy them some beer after their fake IDs do not work. However, they are caught by the police when they have a drink on their way to Lucy's party.
Degrassi High -- Everybody Wants Something
Lucy agrees to shoot The Zits' video, provided that they can agree on a script, convince Clutch to lend them his car, and coax Lucy into shooting it with Clutch around. Erica demands to know who has been putting hateful anti-abortion slogans on her locker.
Degrassi: The Next Generation -- Holiday Parts 1 & 2
Joey and Sydney's holiday cheer leaves Caitlin feeling like Scrooge. Manny wants Craig to break up with Ashley.
Degrassi: The Next Generation -- Weddings, Parties, Anything
Craig tries to swear off girls, but Manny and Ellie sure aren't making it easy. Joey gets back into the dating game.
DJ SK8 Nights at the Natrel Rink feature seven events by DJs spinning French pop and indie rock to techno and house music. This is the fourth year of this free all-ages outdoor series, with three events planned for December and January and one event in February.
All nights feature free hot chocolate courtesy of Natrel. For more information, call 416-973-4000 or visit Harbourfront Centre's website.
The Natrel rink is open daily until March 15, 2009 (weather permitting) from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday to 11 p.m. They provide skate rentals, sharpening, change rooms and lockers. If you're hungry from all the skating, drop by Lakeside Eats next to the rink for burgers and such, along with hot and cold drinks. The Natrel Rink is located at 235 Queens Quay West, Toronto.
If you'd rather dance indoors, check out In Between Days at The Annex WreckRoom on January 2, where Degrassi stars Spike and Caitlin (pictured above) DJ an all-'80s dance party night. It's become a regular gig the first Friday of each month.
