Toronto's World Cup Warriors: the American
The Team: USA
World Cup History: Have qualified for the World Cup 9 times, with their best result finishing in third place way back in 1930
First round schedule: USA 1 - England 1 (June 12), USA 2 - Slovenia 2 (June 18), Algeria (today at 10 am)
The Fan: Jason S., 27
Occupation: Photographer
Favourite player: Landon Donovan
How far do you think your team will go in the tournament?: Depends on how they finish within their group. If they can finish ahead of England and avoid knockouts with potential group winners like Germany and Argentina, they have a decent chance of getting to the semi-finals.
What's the key to your team's success this year?: Playing within themselves, winning their group, and getting lucky.
Where will you be watching the games?: Nazareth on Bloor Street. Best Ethopian food in the city and a good hideaway from the predictable anti-American sentiment of Toronto's pubs
Any pre-game rituals?: There's an obnoxious character in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade named Donovan. Me and my brother will usually text a few quotes from the movie to each other before the games.
Which team is your most hated rival and why?: I'm not that fond of Germany. They knocked us out in 2002 and are always tough as nails.
