What's better than slipping and falling on an icy Toronto trail? Skating on it. 

Parts of Toronto's Beltline Trail — the popular path which runs nine kilometres from east to west in Toronto — froze over this weekend thanks to some chilly temps in the first few days of 2021.

The ground got so perilously icy in some areas that some brave souls took the opportunity to bust out their ice skates and turn the death trap into an ice rink.

The Kay Gardner portion of the Beltline sees its fair share of joggers and cyclists during the summer, but it was definitely not the season for wheels this weekend.

Instead, a number of people hopped on their blades to whizz on nature's bumpy but relatively functional ice pad.

It's not Nathan Phillips Square or the Bentway, but at least skaters got to skip the online reservation process of proper rinks.  

While some serious City-mandated salting would have been better for those trying to traverse the trail by foot, it goes to show that in Toronto, ice skates make the better winter boot.
