Big news coming out of the hockey world today.

Toronto's very own P.K. Subban has announced his retirement from the National Hockey League (NHL) after 13 seasons.

And naturally, Toronto fans are sad to learn they will never get to see him in a Leafs jersey.

Can't 100% confirm if this is true but 2 different #NHL employees have told me that P.K. Subban had his eyes set on either a #GoHabsGo reunion or a final shot at the Cup with #LeafsForever. That were the only 2 options in his mind. When both doors closed, he was done.

The Rexdale-raised 33-year-old shared the big news on his social media pages, starting off a lengthy post with the beginnings of his hockey dreams.

"I remember my dreams of playing in the NHL and winning a Stanley Cup, similar to the guys on the Don Cherry Rock'em Sock'em tapes at the end of every volume, with the black eyes, broken bones, and tears of joy. To this day, I still dream about it," he said.

Then here comes to the big news: "However, the end of this chapter is closing and after 13 years in the NHL, I have made the decision to retire."

He goes on to thank his parents, brothers, sisters and fans for supporting him since day one.

Isn't Subban the perfect age for the Leafs to sign him?

They love those end-of-career former All Stars.

"To an amazing league that gave me the opportunity to compete at the highest level with some of the best athletes in the world. The NHL also provided me with a platform that allowed me to give back thru my charities. A sincere thank you to the many players that I either played with or competed against who brought out the best in me."

During his time on the ice, Subban played for the Montreal Canadiens, Nashville Predators and New Jersey Devils. He thanked each organization for their "class and integrity."

"I look forward to the road ahead, and the many exciting opportunities to come. I'm excited to share what those are with you all when the time comes!"

Feels like Subban should have given it one last go with the Leafs at league min.

To some Leafs fan, Subban's announcement is a bit sad as he never got to play for the home team.

In 2022 Subban won the King Clancy Memorial Trophy and helped Canada to win a gold medal over Sweden at the 2009 World Juniors and again in 2014 at the Winter Olympics in Sochi.
