What would you give up to see the Toronto Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup in 2023?

Some would completely alter their lifestyle, according to a new survey looking into the desperation level of Canadian hockey fans in different markets.

Online betting guide legalbetcanada.com surveyed almost 900 NHL fans across the nation in April to paint a picture of what fans would do to see their team go all the way this year.

The study found that Leafs fans rank second out of the seven Canadian teams with a score of 6.73 out of 10 on the desperation scale. Only Edmonton Oilers fans came out more thirsty for a Cup, at 7.06 out of 10.

Toronto fans may be among the most desperate for success, but you wouldn't know it by how much individual fans would be willing to pay to see their team take home a Stanley Cup win.

Winnipeg Jets fans came out on top (if you can call coming first in this category a win), willing to spend an astronomical average of $6,866. Leafs fans, after years of disappointment, would only fork over an average of $713 for their team's name to be etched into the Stanley Cup, less than what most are willing to pay for a Leafs playoff ticket.

Canadian hockey fans would do a lot to see their team rise to the top, such as giving up drinking, shaving their heads, abstaining from video games or getting a team tattoo. Giving up alcohol was the top choice at 23 per cent nationwide, and was the most-named option among six of the seven Canadian teams, including the Leafs.

Of the four Canadian teams to have won a cup in their history, the Leafs had the smallest share of its fanbase alive at the time the last Stanley Cup was won by Toronto in 1967, at just 19 per cent. The average age of the fan base is just 16 years old.

blogTO asked Leafs fans what they'd be willing to give up in 2022, garnering a wide range of answers. Fans said they were willing to give up pizza, cell phones, drinking, Timmies' Iced Capps, and even members of their own families for a taste of victory.
