Canada's Wonderland announces record-breaking coaster opening in 2025
Canada's Wonderland has confirmed rampant speculation, announcing a wild new attraction on Thursday that is set to open in 2025.
The theme park revealed that the much-talked-about secret rollercoaster that has been under construction in the park since March will be Canada's longest, tallest and fastest launch coaster, to be known as AlpenFury.
The new attraction will launch riders out of the park's iconic Wonder Mountain along a 1,000-metre-long track that will reach top speeds of 115 km/h with a mind-bending nine inversions — more than any other launch coaster on the continent.
Designed by ride manufacturer Premier Rides, AlpenFury will be the park's 19th roller coaster, and the fourth ride to directly interact with the park's iconic centrepiece mountain.
"AlpenFury is a world-class attraction, and we're excited for the unique thrills it will offer our guests," said Phil Liggett, general manager at Canada's Wonderland.
"The combination of being blasted out of Wonder Mountain, and then racing through nine inversions one right after the other, is going to be an experience guests won't soon forget."
Alpenfest will feature a sled haus that will serve as the entrance to the new ride, which features sleds as ride vehicles.
The ride will stand as the centrepiece of a new themed area of the park set to debut next year, dubbed Alpenfest, a village described as permanently hosting "a festival celebrating the mystical union of fire and ice."
Wonderland has not yet announced an official opening date for the hotly-anticipated new coaster.
