Toronto Raptors icons DeRozan and Lowry tell hilarious McDonald's story
Even if you end up signing a multi-million dollar with the Toronto Raptors, the rules of McDonald's still apply to you.
And for longtime Raptors teammates Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan, they learned this lesson the hard way one day in Wichita, Kansas.
In a video released yesterday on the team's YouTube channel as part of the Open Gym series, the two best buds shared many of their best memories from their years together on the court.
But it seems to be the moments off the court that have allowed their friendship to continue to blossom, even after nearly seven years since they last suited up as teammates.
DeRozan shared one particularly humbling story of a fast-food caper that's likely quite relatable to anyone who's tried a late-night food pickup without a car.
Visiting town for a Raptors preseason game in 2014 against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Lowry and DeRozan decided one night that they were in the mood for a McFlurry.
But when arriving at the McDonald's, they realized they were out of luck, with only the drive-thru open. They tried a classic move — walking up to the window themselves, but were quickly turned away.

"The dude on the motorcycle, we asked him could he buy it for us, because they wouldn't let us," DeRozan laughed.
Neither DeRozan nor Lowry shared whether the pair ever got the McFlurry. It's also not clear whether the McFlurry situation occurred the night before or shortly after the game, but either way, Toronto came out victorious over the Thunder 109-90.
They did share another interesting tidbit, though: that trip to Kansas was the first time they met a young Fred VanVleet, who was starring for the Wichita State Shockers as a 20-year-old at the time.
So, while the trip to Kansas might have provided a few short-term hurdles, it at least laid the groundwork for a long-term friendship.
