Canadian New Media Awards Crowns 2008 Winners

I just got back from this year's Canadian New Media Awards (CNMAs) at CiRCA. As far as award shows go, it's an uphill battle trying to sex up something that celebrates social media applications or excellence in cross platform but the organizers certainly tried their best. Comedian Sugar Sammy was the host and made the whole thing somewhat bearable for those of us cheering from the cheap seats.

Perhaps the most interesting of the categories was Most Promising Company of the Year. The nominees were three Toronto-based contenders including b5media, Filemobile and Viigo. Viigo walked away with the prize. The raw video of the the award announcement is posted above (I'm not making any promises for its entertainment value).
