Hello, I'm CUPE. And I'm York University.

The strike at Toronto's York University continues to keep learning at a standstill and cause frustration for students caught in the middle of it all. The ongoing stalemate between the union representing staff and the university administration took a fresh turn on the web yesterday.

CUPE 3903 unveiled an online ad campaign, harnessing the popularity of hip tech while taking jabs at York University administration in the form of spoofs of Apple's popular "I'm a Mac / I'm a PC" ads.

York University wouldn't send his own kids to York University:

York University buys a second Rolls Royce, while CUPE looks for a second job:

CUPE gives York University a shoe shine but doesn't get paid because tuition is owed:

Ad campaigns like this often seek to bolster public opinion, but ultimately the problem isn't up to the public to solve or even influence all that much. A rift between the two organizations, in my opinion, needs to be solved by the two organizations. I'm not sure that creating ads depicting staff shining the shoes of admins is going to have the desired effect on public opinion. In fact, it may have the opposite effect. When you get into a heated, emotional argument, is there much worse a piss-off than your opponent taking the liberty of speaking for you (and getting it all wrong)?
