The Internet Excrement Machine
The internet is rife with assholes happily excreting their opinions, underlining the Internet's brutal (and sadly predictable) common denominator. Perhaps the biggest forum for all things hateful and vile on the net, 4chan.org/b/ recently caught the eye of an anonymous Toronto East-ender with an interest in art and futurism.
The result? The Internet Excrement Machine.
While I honestly had never heard of the infamous /b/ sub-channel, many of my friends with better nerd cred had, and soon pointed me to some informative reading materials. Once you realize how brutally ignorant some of the content is, it's easy to understand why the artist wished to remain anonymous; however a 'spokesperson' was kind enough to answer some of my questions about this curious testament to the darkest bowels of the net.
How did the idea for The Internet Excrement Machine originate?
The artist first found out about /b/ from spaceghetto.net several years ago. Having once been a teenage "hacker" and shit disturber himself, there was a natural fascination with the site.
As for the name, "Internet Hate Machine" was actually given consideration, but didn't fit the theme of the human body, thus "Internet Excrement Machine" was used. "Bowels of the Internet" was also considered. I believe "Internet Hate Machine" actually refers to 4chan/anonymous itself, and was coined during a Fox News story on the group (below).
Ok, so how does it work?
The machine gives a live output feed of some of the most profane conversations currently happening on the Internet, feeding from 4chan.org/b/.
What have been the funniest, strangest, and worst outputs excreted thus far?
The funniest output so far was simply: "it's epic ass time";
...the strangest was: "hey guysim jonathanlooking for a good ass poundingi live in houstonno one over 55 ebony preferred7138731920hope";
.....and the worst was: "in blood achievedSuffocate you,Rip you,Rape you,Make you fucking screamOrgasmic mutilation,On terror I do feedAnnihilate this".
Does the artist have any plans for future projects, in similar vein?
The next project might be another component to the Anthropomorphic
Internet. The idea is to eventually create an entire "living" sculpture of the Internet; modeled after the human body (abstractly).
___
The artist and Global Eyes hope to join an upcoming show at the Fine & Dandy art gallery, where the Internet Excrement Machine will be on display and in action. It will be interesting to see what the next project is... like the human body, the Internet can be a pretty disgusting and marvelous place.
