York Region Transit App

York Region Transit now has an iPhone app

Hey, York Region! Look at you covered in snow. But there's some good news for those of you whose fates depend on public transit. Albu Media has just released an iPhone app that tracks bus arrival times, which sure is nice given the frequency of service in the area. Not to be confused with a trip planner, the app merely tracks the position of upcoming buses, which you can view by time or space (i.e. on a map). That's it. Nice and easy to use.

The app is a broader version of the Viva-specific one the company released last year and joins a host of similar products that service the Toronto area. Call it Rocket Radar for York Region. Using GPS information, users get real-time info about the status of their next ride. The price? 99 cents. That's probably worth forking out if it saves you even a few minutes waiting for a bus in the positively frigid weather north of Steeles Ave.
