Canadians will soon have to pay more for Bell services like phone and internet

Bell is hiking the prices of some of its TV, internet, and home phone plans next month.

In an email statement sent in December, a Bell spokesperson confirmed that the price hikes would be implemented in February.

"Due to rising operating costs and an evolving market, the monthly rate of some Bell services will increase, effective February 1, 2025. We've provided 60 days notice to impacted customers about these changes," stated the spokesperson.

The company added that it's committed to providing customers with flexible options ranging from premium offerings to affordable packages.

One Canadian shared an email about the increases to Reddit.

"At Bell, we continuously invest to deliver best-in-class networks and innovative services to keep Canadians connected," it reads. "In order to support these investments, we will be increasing some of our monthly rates as of February 1, 2025."

According to the email, the customer's internet will increase by $4 monthly and TV by $2.50 monthly.

Others shared tips on how to get cheaper plans.

"It's annoying but change providers every time they up the price. Do not do contracts. Use third party," reads one comment.

"Find pricing from a discount brand like Costco's VMedia. Tell them to match it or you leave. They will match it," added another. "These f**kers are price gouging and we all know it."

The rates may be different in some provinces.

According to a notice on the telecom giant's Manitoba site, the monthly rate of some of its home services will increase on January 1, 2025.

Starting on New Year's Day, Canadians who have Bell Fibe Internet plans (Fibe 75, 100, 150, 300, 500, Gigabit Fibe, Gigabit Fibe 1.5, Gigabit Fibe 3.0) should expect a $3 increase on their monthly bills.

If you subscribe to Fibe TV's Basic, Good, Better, and Best Packages, you'll pay $2 more monthly in 2025.

For those with a Bell home phone plan, the Basic plan will cost $2 more, and the Home Phone Essentials package and the Total Home Phone package will cost $1 more.

Last year, Bell Canada Enterprises Inc. (BCE) reduced 4,800 positions across all company levels, including voluntary departures, by eliminating vacant positions. BCE told us that around 440 impacted positions were at Bell Media.
