Insomnia, playing at the Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, follows the story of John F as we delve deep into his psyche to see how far down he has fallen within his own mind. The story deals with the insecurities and indecisiveness that lies within us all.

John F. tosses and turns as he wallows in his worst fears... his troubles exasperated by a failing marriage, a faltering writing career and an unfinished masterpiece. Then there's his successful and overbearing brother, not to mention John F.'s unrequited love for his sister-in-law. Casting a hypnotic spell, the play takes us into the restless and anxious soul of not only one man, but of a culture teetering on the brink of catastrophe.

Written by Daniel Brooks and Guilermo Verdecchia, the experimental piece uses sound and light as a way to, not only effect the audience, but attack them as well. Chris Abraham directs the project that stars Brooks, Randy Hughson, Colombe Demers and Fiona Highet. I spoke with Chris about his thoughts on the production.

What is this show about?

"The show is about doubt. One man's experience of powerlessness, compromised idealism and Insomnia. It lives in that strange place between sleep and waking. It examines a world that is coming apart at this seams and John F.'s attempt to understand what to do about it."

What were your intentions in putting this up?

"To have the audience leave the theatre in a slightly altered state."

What should the audience expect to leave the show thinking or feeling?

"Awake."
