Featured on blogTO last week. Overpopulation, energy depletion, drought, mass extinction: these and other problems have arrived, or are on their way. People die, families die out, and entire civilizations end. Change on an enormous scale is inevitable. Described by Daniel Brooks as an elegy, The Eco Show examines how the ecology of one family is changed by the ecology of the world.
- My Fellow Creatures - May 15 - June 1, 2008 - a production by Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, showing in the Theatre Passe Muraille Mainspace at 16 Ryerson (just to confuse us of course...)
This one is not going to be easy to watch, but also sounds fascinating at the same time. It is a conversation of two imprisoned men, an examination of these adult men who love
children. Basically, it's a conversation about sexual abuse from the perspective of the abuser.

2008 de Colores Festival of New Works by Latin-Canadian Playwrights, May 25 & 26 (Lower Ossington Theatre, 100A Ossington Ave.)
This new festival is designed to give voice to emerging and established Latin American playwrights working in Canada. The first festival of its kind in the history of Canadian theatre, the yearly festival will provide dramaturgical support to Latin Canadian writers, allowing them to develop their scripts from a rough draft to a final, production-ready script.

Factory Theatre (125 Bathurst St)
The Facts Behind the Helsinki Roccamations, May 21 to 25
This show is written by Yan Martel, who you might remember as the author of The Life Pi, and is the story of two friends coping with AIDS in mid-1980s, when an HIV positive diagnosis was an almost immediate death sentence. The title of the play is based on a game invented by the narrator to help a character come to terms with his inevitable death. In the game the two create a 'secret' story of the Roccamatios, a Finnish family of Italian extraction.

A compassionate and heart-wrenching examination of the relationship between a mother and daughter.

The Theatre Centre (1087 Queen St West)

A production in progress, breakfast expands on the company's absurdist and darkly humourous style but is a departure with regards to its theatrical vision and use of space. Audiences are invited to see the show multiple times during the run to witness the transformation of the production as director, designers, writers and performers continue to work days and play nights until the very last week. Hold onto your ticket stub and see the show again for $5 on the last Tuesday of the run!
