Glen Major Forest

Glen Major Forest is a picturesque hiking trail less than an hour from Toronto

Glen Major Forest is a trail you must explore if you're looking for somewhere near Toronto to get outdoors right now.

And what better place to head to than this forested area in Uxbridge, home to the Trail Capital of Canada?

Glen Major Forest is one of the township's spectacular parks, which boasts scenic vistas, rolling hills, dense forests, and well-marked trails for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing in the winter months.

Expanding over 3,705 acres of land on the Oak Ridges Moraine, the Glen Major Forest offers 47 km of trails to discover. It also includes the Glen Major Resource Tract, the Wilder Woods Tract, and the Aggregate Trail.

One of the most popular trails, the Glen Major Forest Loop, is a 6.1 km loop trail open year-round which leads you through one of most mature forests within the Durham Regional Forest network.

While hiking the loop, you'll be treated to panoramic views from a variety of scenic viewpoints. During the spring, wildflowers bloom along the trail.

There is also a small river that a section of the pathway follows, perfect for a pitstop along your route to take in the soothing sounds of the flowing water.

For some great exercise with easy to moderate difficulty, the park is the perfect destination to absorb Ontario's budding natural beauty and take in some of the region's most beautiful landscapes.

Glen Major Forest does offer parking, though there is a fee of $6. Nearby, you can also explore over 220 km of other trails in Uxbridge to make the most out of your daytrip from Toronto.
